About the Role
If you have just left school or college and are looking to start a career in supporting teaching and learning, Jarvis Brook School is working in partnership with Youthforce to offer a Level 2 Apprenticeship.
The school will provide a mentor to help and guide the apprentice through all aspects of working at the school. The mentor will also provide support to ensure the candidate develops the skills and knowledge to successfully complete the NVQ Level 2 Support Teaching & Learning Qualification. Local training will be provided.
The successful candidate will:-
• be ready to work alongside teaching colleagues to ensure positive learning experiences for the children in their care; • establish positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues; • ensure children's safety and wellbeing;
We will expect you to:-
• have a positive, approachable manner and a 'can do' attitude; • be ready to learn from colleagues and work under direction and on your own initiative; • believe passionately in the importance of education.
Experience of working in a school environment through work experience/ work placements is essential.
The post is a 12 month fixed contract.
Working week: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.45am-3.30pm. Weekly wage is 102.
National Minimum Wage for apprentices is 3.40 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
This post is covered by the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2009.
The school will need to ensure that they are not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2009 Regulations in connection with relevant childcare provision. Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, by completing a self-declaration form as part of the pre-employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2009 Regulations.
If the preferred candidate is found to be disqualified under the 2009 Regulations, the offer of employment will be subject to the application by the preferred candidate to Ofsted for a waiver and the receipt of a waiver from Ofsted.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
