On-going expansion of our successful site investigation operations has created a new position for a Trainee Site Investigation Lead Operative.

We're looking for a responsible and extremely reliable site operative, to be based in the M23/ M25 south corridor area (Gatwick), who will undergo training to fulfil the role of Site Investigation Lead Operative.

Reporting to the Operations Manager (Geotechnical) the role mobile/ field based and will involve working as part of a two man team in undertaking the following work:
• Arrange, manage and undertake ground investigations at domestic properties including:
o Excavation of:

  • Bore holes using hand auger/ window sampler equipment/ plant to extract soil and root samples.
  • Trial pits and/or trenches to expose and record foundations

o Hard and soft surfacing reinstatement methods/ techniques
o Basic domestic drainage investigation work.
o Establish and manage work area safety, welfare and health in full compliance with company safety procedures/Health & Safety Guidelines.
o Produce accurate and high quality field reports utilising the in-house reporting software via a tablet/ Touchpad PC.

• Day to day maintenance of plant, tools and equipment.
Geotechnical qualifications or solid experience within the ground investigation and/ or subsidence industry would be a distinct advantage. A Full UK driving licence is essential.
Applicants are expected to be able to identify and resolve common site problems and seek advice to deal with situations beyond their own technical competence. They must be practical, proactive and willing to be flexible and focused on learning how to get the job done to a high standard.


You will be IT comfortable and have a working knowledge of standard IT packages (Word, Excel, Office etc.).

You will be confident in verbal communication with excellent inter-personal skills together with a willingness to show hands on team leadership with ability to prioritise and problem solve.

Salary and benefits package subject to experience.

Usual hours will be 42.5 hour week – Monday to Friday, plus overtime and overnight allowances.
