My client are a Global Manufacturing company based in the Sussex area. Due to the business expanding my client is in the position to appoint a Senior Buyer on a permanent basis. The key responsibilities of the role is to manage Direct Material spend across a number of commodities including OEM parts, electrical and mechanical parts and assemblies, achieving excellent and measured results for the quality of product delivered, cost reduction initiatives, and delivery to requirement.
In addition, the business requires leadership in achieving the lowest total cost of ownership through negotiation, value engineering, Low Cost Country sourcing, supplier reduction and supplier consolidation.

Responsibilities

· The performance of the successful individual is defined and measured by goals and behaviours which cover cost reduction/ delivery/ lead-time/ quality and payment terms improvements.
· Lead teams to select and implement suppliers as necessary according to the sourcing process.
· Negotiate best practice initial terms with suppliers.
· Reduce and consolidate the approved vendor list.
· Monitor supplier's performance (cost, quality, delivery).
· Implement and manage supplier QBR meetings.
· Implement open book costing
· Continuously develop suppliers to improve their service to my client
· Implement the Purchasing tactics plan as directed.
· Support and promote good teamwork in the department and act in line with the company values.

· Fast turnaround of engineering change implementation with suppliers
· Identify and promote opportunities for business improvement
· The successful candidate will have the proven ability to manage a supply base and
meet their objectives set by the Purchasing Manager.
· Communication and negotiation skills are a key competence, to ensure full stakeholder engagement and the ability to work with people of all levels and different cultures
· The key interfaces for the Buyer are: Purchasing, Logistics, Spares, Engineering, Manufacturing, and the global supply base.
· Strong work experience with a proven track record of achievement
· Experience of working in a Purchasing department
· Experience of managing engineering change, point of introduction, and MRP
· Degree educated (eng, science, business admin) or equivalent combination of education and work experience
· Strong interpersonal skills
