We aim, through the Early Childhood service (ECS), to work with children, families, early years and childcare settings and partner organisations to help ensure that every child is supported to achieve his or her potential. These early years are when the foundations for future mental health, emotional well-being, intelligence and parenting ability are all set in place. The home surroundings, family life and parenting are all important factors in determining positive outcomes for children in the future. Services will be provided in partnership with families and in line with statutory guidance and County Council priorities. Children and Family Centre services aim to support families in making positive changes and enable children and young people to reach their full potential. Services are underpinned by a commitment to treating people as individuals.

The Family Information Service Assistant will provide and help implement an information and guidance service regarding childcare and early years information and advice specialising, for example, in support for parents and carers or providers and practitioners. This may include answering queries about childcare; advising on suitable training for practitioners; or liaising regarding support for children.

Working flexibly across a locality from a range of locations including those of partner agencies, you will provide information for parents and carers and their children and act as a point of access, signposting to the range of local services through schools, children and family centres, and other integrated services. You will need good communication and IT skills, and be able to deal with the occasional challenging situation, when dealing with members of the public, or dealing with complex family situations.
